Meet Dr. Durell Dancy

Cosmetic and General Dentist in Indianapolis

Dr. Durell, a cosmetic and general dentist, was born and raised on the westside of Indianapolis. He attended Crispus Attucks Middle School and Arsenal Tech for high school. He later completed his Chemistry and Biology degrees at IUPUI and continued on to a Post Baccalaureate program at the University of California San Francisco focused on dental school entry. Dr. Durell earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the illustrious Indiana University School of Dentistry. Upon graduation, Dr. Durell started working alongside Dr. Austin at Merit Dental, learning the skills of Cosmetic Dentistry, and also performed contract dentistry with Dr. Carter in the statewide county jail system, where he gained his love for helping the underserved community.
Dr. Durell’s passion for dentistry began when he was very young. He had a curious young mind, and when he heard dental staff talking about dentistry, he was intrigued by all the big words. What are ‘distal occlusal caries,’ and how do they develop in someone’s mouth? Dental language became a whole new secret code for him. It was fun and exciting. Eventually, his inquisitiveness about dentistry led him to enroll in a dental assisting course in high school and pursue dentistry in college.

Dr. Durell’s goal is to create a fun, gentle and caring patient-centered experience. He encourages patient involvement through patient education and teaching. Through his experiences, he understands that the dentist is not the first place that patients want to be. That’s why Durell Dentistry’s team takes pride in their calming atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable during all visits.

• He has four kids that he loves spending time with
• He enjoys watching and playing sports, and has coached youth teams for over 10 years
• He has worked in research for dental remineralization, heart calcification, limb regeneration and neuron proliferation
• He loves to fish and and spend time doing outdoor activities
• He was a youth reading and math coach in college
• He loves to play golf (but donates a lot of balls to the courses)
• He was a middle school state chess champion
