Cosmetic Restorations: Veneers

 At Durell Dentistry, we use both composite and ceramic veneers. Veneers are very thin and are attached to the front of your teeth. With veneers, you can change the color and shape of your teeth. 

Veneers can improve the appearance of your smile if you have:

• Cracked or broken teeth
• Gaps between your teeth
• Stained and discolored teeth
• Irregularly shaped teeth
• Teeth that are misaligned or askew

Veneers become a permanent part of your mouth. They are not removable. You will be able to brush and floss as usual, and you can enjoy your favorite foods as well.

Cosmetic Restorations: Cosmetic Bonding

Cosmetic bonding is a procedure that uses a tooth-colored composite resin to enhance your smile. During the process, Dr. Dancy applies tooth-colored resin to your teeth to change their shape, size, or color. Unlike veneers, cosmetic bonding is entirely reversible. 

This procedure is used to repair chips, close gaps, or change the shape and color of a tooth.

Cosmetic bonding can be used to make the following improvements to your smile: 

• Close gaps and spaces between your teeth
• Conceal cracks and chips in your teeth.
• Camouflage tooth discoloration and stains
• Make your teeth appear to be longer.
• Change the shape of your teeth.

Fun fact! The same composite material used in dental bonding is also used to fill cavities and replace old silver fillings.

Cosmetic Restorations: Crowns

A crown is a prosthetic cap placed over a damaged tooth to restore functionality and appearance. The crown replaces the tooth down to the gum level.

Dental crowns have many uses:

• Protecting a weak or decaying tooth from breaking
• Holding together parts of a cracked tooth
• Restoring a broken or worn-down tooth
• Covering and supporting a tooth with a large filling
• Holding a dental bridge in place
• Covering misshaped or severely discolored teeth
• Protecting and covering a dental implant
• Making a cosmetic modification

Cosmetic Restorations: Diagnostic Modeling

Diagnostic models are three-dimensional replicas of a patient’s teeth and gums. Dental plaster or acrylic is poured into impressions of the teeth. Once it hardens, the models are used at Durell Dentistry to help with diagnosis and planning. They are also used to show the patient a before and after of their teeth.

Cosmetic Restorations: Teeth Whitening

At Durell Dentistry, we use an at-home teeth whitening system called Opalescence. With Opalescence, your teeth whiten as oxygen molecules from the whitening agent in the gel spread throughout the tooth and react with the discolored molecules in your teeth. It works so well because the whitening gel doesn’t have to be in contact with every part of the enamel. It is a safe, non-invasive, and effective whitening method that we are proud to offer to our patients.
